Complete remodelling of a garden comes in two main stages: the Design and the Build. As a client you can choose to have Pastures New produce the complete design and then take this concept through to the final build, or if you prefer we can just provide the design at its various stages for you to complete the project.

This page does not include any information for construction since it is unlikely that two designs will ever be the same and therefore the construction stage will also differ.

1. Upon initial invitation by you the client, one of our designers will arrange a suitable day and time to visit. This first meeting is the Client Brief and our fee for this service is usually free if you know what you want doing (makeover) or a fixed sum anywhere between £50 and £125 depending upon the size of your garden if you need us to come up with all the ideas (design). You can view the current fees for  designing a garden on the Design Fees page of this web site. The main aim of the Site Survey is to discuss the basic ideas you might already have whilst taking a relaxed, casual walk with you through your garden. During this time we will also be making notes of specific plants you wish to keep and/or discard, the aspect of your plot with regards to sun and shade, and to get a general feel for your preferred style, colour scheme and planting preferences. At this stage it would also benefit us to have an idea of your budget, both ideal and maximum expenditure.

2. If you are happy to proceed with the design we can then arrange for a second appointment: this will constitute the Site Analysis/Survey. Here we will accurately measure and record the position of everything in your garden, catalogue all the existing plants and take a number of soil samples to determine natural moisture content, soil type and Ph levels. The size of your garden and the current level of planting/landscaping will determine the the time taken to complete the  analysis, but this will be charged at a set rate and will form part of your overall Design Fee.  Once we have gathered all the information we require we will take it away and over the course of a few days produce a Base Drawing, which will  show details of any proposed changes. The main reason for a base drawing is to allow the client to discuss the design and make any alterations before too much detail has been added.

3. If you are happy with the base drawing we can take that one step further and produce Concept Drawings. These drawings (overhead view in black & white and a 3D eye-level sketch in colour), will suggest planting types, garden theme or style and any hard landscaping proposals but will not specify particular plant names or construction specifications. An estimate of total cost will also be included.

4. Should you now wish to proceed to the final design then details of  specific plants with their locations noted and details of any hard landscaping or timber structures can be discussed and finalised. If you then commission Pastures New to complete the works a final drawing will be produced for use during construction and a copy presented to you upon completion of the project. The fees for this stage of the design should be settled prior to commencement of any construction but at no time will we request any payment in advance of work.
