Willenhall Frontage
This tired-looking driveway near Wolverhampton needed a serious facelift but many of the modern
surfaces such as imprinted concrete and block paving were too expensive for the owner - which for
us was a good thing since driveways are not normally part of the service we offer. The clients also
wanted more impact with the planting - equally good for us since that is an area where we excel.
Naturally the old slabs had to go to make room for the new greenery which we planted within a
raised bed that echoed the outline of the house front. The two driveways were then laid to gravel.

Concrete slabs might
have been popular
when this driveway
was first laid but...
The first thing to do
was to build the bed
in an eye-catching
shape that echoed the
outline of the house.
Then it was time to
put some plants in
to bring the whole
thing on a stage.
Sadly the rain soon
stopped play, but it
did save us having to
water them all in.
Next job was to
lift the old paving
slabs From the two
driveways.
And lay down a heavy
duty sheet of weed
suppressing material.
The final stage was
laying the gravel...
after incorporating a
diamond pattern to
break up the colour.
