2 York Ponds
The owner of this garden in York wanted water... and plenty of it! In order to limit the
cost the agreed design would be conducted in two phases. Phase one was to construct
a two-tiered pond down the right-hand side of the garden which had to include an eye-
catching, informal waterfall at the top end and a much smaller fall joining the two levels
half way down. As it happens phase two was carried out much later but involved joining
the two established ponds with a third that would dominate the central lawn, whilst still
maintaining access to the rear patio via the existing path.

This was the lawn
that would be host
to the garden’s main
feature pond.
The outline shape
was marked out
and the earth was
removed.
Eventually looking
like this. That night
it rained heavily and
the pond filled up.
This is the finished
pond... after having
the water pumped
out and liner fitted.
